Business Marketing Portraits in KC

I had the pleasure of shooting business marketing portraits for Greg Patterson yesterday. Greg is a real estate developer in Kansas City. It was so cool talking to him and listening to all that he is planning in his business. He is focused on building up the urban areas of Kansas City and it will be exciting to see his projects develop over the future. He wanted to get his portrait taken in front of his office building. It is an old 1920's building that he has spent a lot of time restoring. It is amazing what he was telling me about the place. He tore out some of the drop down ceilings to reveal the original architecture in the building. There is such great detail that I couldn't believe that anyone would ever cover it up. I really like the classic architecture. I studied architecture at Kansas State University and it brought back my appreciation for it when I was walking through his office building. Thanks again to my friend John Jordan for giving me this assignment.

Hilarious Photo

So my friend Mike emailed a few of us friends and told us how excited he was about receiving his new Weber grill yesterday. He signed off his email with HIIIIIOOOOOOOOO!!! My friend Erik then replied with "Is that your Thundercat yell?" and minutes later we all received this photo from Mike...

I am still laughing at this and I am still not sure if this is Mike or not?

Barker Wedding 7.7.07

I am finally getting around to posting images from the wedding I shot on July 7th. I shot this wedding with John Jordan of Jordan Photography. John is another amazing photographer and a good friend. Kate and Dave were the beautiful couple and they had their wedding at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Kansas City. The church was not huge but it had some amazing places to shoot. The overhang in the front entrance was covered with frosted glass that gave a gorgeous soft light to shoot in. Kate was so beautiful and she had such a fun outgoing personality that just added to the amazing photos. Dave was a super cool guy and I was able to get some great photos of him showing his bride how much he loves her by the look he gave in her eyes. I took many photos of Kate and Dave cause they just looked so beautiful together. The reception was at Oakwood Country Club and had great views of the golf course from the back balcony. We took some incredible shots of the couple just before dusk and the views of the golf course along with the architecture of the building created and amazing backdrop for them. I really enjoyed shooting this wedding and I am excited to share some of the photos with you. Thanks John and congratulations Kate and Dave Barker!

Longview Mansion and some self-portraits

Yesterday I went out to Longview Mansion to scout the location for a wedding I am shooting on Aug. 4th. I met Marsha, the manager, and she is a super nice lady that showed me around the place. Longview Mansion is a photographers haven. It is so beautiful with brilliant lighting in so many rooms. I can't wait to shoot there. Here are some of the photos of the interior rooms.

There is also a stone colonnade down by the water that is so rustic and perfect for some great bridal shots. I took the time to take a few self-portraits while I was down there. I didn't have my tripod so I got creative with setting my camera on the ground and elevating my lens with a piece of stone. This was after I got bored of shooting my mug so close-up by holding the camera out in front of me. Here is a couple of my favorites.

Back in Kansas, photos in Minnesota

I am back in Kansas City! I was so excited to get back home. I have spent the weekend catching up on all the sleep I missed out on in Minnesota. Today I have been trying to get all my clothes washed and get through all my emails. My life is almost back to normal.

One exciting thing in Minnesota that I didn't share with you was at the Herrman's house. The Herrman's are the family that called me to operate the firework tent in Detroit Lakes and I stayed at their house for a couple of nights. Randy and Karen are the parents of one of my best friends from high school, Josh Herrman, and they have become like a second set of parents to me. They were so hospitable to me and Jon while we were in Minnnesota. Karen works at the Tommy Hilfiger outlet store and even hooked my up with some great clothes at a big discount. I love my new wardrobe. Thanks so much Karen.

Anyways, they called me down to Wichita, Kansas on Christmas Eve to do family portraits for them. This was one of the only times they would all be together at once. I was going to be in Wichita for Christmas with my family and I told them I would be glad to shoot their family photos. I never get to see the final prints since I have such an awesome online lab with Pictage that takes care of all the orders for my clients. I just see what I post on the web. Well, when I was in Minnesota I saw that Karen had ordered a lot of my photos and had them all over their house. It was awesome to see the final prints hanging in their house. This is why I do what I do and it is so gratifying for me to see how excited my friends are to have my photos in their homes!

Where has Kevin been?

O.K. here is the story...

I didn't have any weddings scheduled for the last two weekends. My friends dad manages firework tents for TNT Fireworks in Minnesota and had a great location available and wanted me to operate it for him this year. I had sold fireworks with him for a few years in the past and it is a lot of work. Well, I decided to do it anyway.

So here I am in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota living in an 80'x 40' tent the last week and a half with my roommate Jon. We have the biggest tent in the area. It has been very busy and I am exhausted as you will see in my photos. We sleep, eat and live here 24 hours a day. The final three days are here and I am looking forward to getting home and sleeping in my own bed. It has been a lot of work yet it is very fun to see the joy on the kids faces when their parents buy them fireworks. There are a lot of elements to battle will being out here... every year you have to fight the stormy weather but we have been blessed to only have a little rain this year. Also, the mesquitos here are ruthless and the train goes by every hour and it blasts a really loud horn. We also go to the community center to shower every day. As you can see, sleep and cleanliness have been at a minimum for both Jon and I. I did manage to promote my business while I am here with a table display and my banner hanging up. Minnesota brides give me a call! Here are some photos from my experience the last week and a half. I will be so excited to be back in Kansas City this Friday.

This photo is really cool (below)

I promoted my business with this table display

I was so excited! I got this smoothie maker when I opened a checking account here in Detroit Lakes. This has been a lifesaver for Jon and I. (one banana, crushed ice and a packet of ruby red drink mix...mmmmmmmm:)

Just a couple more cool photos

Jon acting silly

Wow! That's a lot of fireworks!
