Truesdell Family Photos

I had a great family photo session with my friend Stacy and her family this last weekend in Andover, Kansas. They were all so great to me. On Friday they took me out to dinner so I could get to know everyone. We had a fun time laughing and sharing stories. I did a model shoot with Stacy a couple of years ago. We have kept in touch since then. I told her that she has always been my favorite model and she calls me her favorite photographer. CLICK HERE to see some of the photos from our shoot in 2005.

On Sunday we went spent the whole afternoon at the barn in Augusta, Kansas where she boards her three horses. There were so many places to shoot out there and her whole family is so beautiful that I was having a blast finding all these amazing shots to take. Cory is the oldest of the kids and he looks like a Calvin Klein model. Check out his photo below. Also, they have two daughters, Taylor (Tay-tay) and Gabriel (Gabbie). Both daughters are super cute and they had a lot of fun shooting and riding their horses. Late in the afternoon we hit the perfect light and got a beautiful blue sky. I started shooting none stop for an hour. Look at a sample of some of the amazing photos we got:

Cory posing as a Calvin Klein model...

Gabriel looking like a true cowgirl...

Buddy (pretending to be a cowboy)...

A little romance...

Father and son...

Sasha the Weiner Dog got her chance to ride the horses too...

Thanks so much Stacy and Buddy. I had a great time and your family is so much fun. Can't wait to do it again!

Jessica and Brandon : Engagement Session

I got a last minute phone call today from my friend Denise. She runs Delaney Photography and asked me if I could shoot an engagement session for her today since her boy was at home sick. I am glad I said "yes"! Jessica and Brandon were a fun couple and we got some amazing photos down at Union Station and the Liberty Memorial. It was a beautiful day here in Kansas City. These are some of my favorites from the shoot today...

The Beautiful Kansas Sky...

This was my view on my drive down to Wichita yesterday. I just love the beautiful sunset skies in Kansas. California is beautiful but you never get those surreal skies where the sun rains through the clouds at dusk much like you do here. That is one thing I missed when I lived on the coast. Check out this pick too. I know it's not safe to shoot and drive but it sure beats drinking and driving:)

Back to the gym... Deep Thoughts

I have had a break from the gym for a couple of months now and it was time to get back to working out. I started going to a small gym called Planet Fitness. It is a very relaxed gym without all the grunting groining meat heads. They even have an alarm that goes off if someone is grunting out load. How funny is that? Wow, I have to say it is amazing how tough it is to start-up something after you have taken such a long break from it. It really reminds me a lot of my work... when I am in a routine and have a consistent work load I can just keep going. Once I take a break from that consistency I have to fight to get back to that point. I think it is important for us to fuel those areas of our life daily that really matter to us. Whether it is working out, business, or our spiritual life. I could have easily kept my workout routine from ending months ago if I would have kept a small workout going when I went on vacation. Instead, I took a break and never got back to my routine until now. I have some future goals for consistency in working out, business networking, and prayer/reading that I am hoping to use to build more structure in my life. I want to encourage you all to have goals and when you find those things that are bettering your life don't take a break from them...EVER! Let me know your thoughts on this. Have a blessed weekend. I am going to Wichita to shoot some family portraits that I will share with you next week.

Yes, I shoot more then just weddings

Many people think that I just shoot wedding photography. That is my focus but I truly enjoy shooting portraits too. It's fall and the weather is beautiful for family portraits. Give me a call if you need portraits for 2007 or pass on my info to those that don't know I am more then a wedding photographer. I want to share some photos from a family session I did last year with my friends, the Herrman's.

Uncle K returns from Chicago and Austin

I just returned from a week and a half of being on the road. It was a great time with friends and meeting new people but I am glad to be back home for a while. I started off in Chicago with helping my friend Janak move back to Wichita. While I was there I spent some good time with my friends Jeremy and Mandy. Jeremy, Janak and I have been best friends since high school and it is always great when the three of us can get together. We spent a couple days packing up Janak’s house and putting it all in a huge moving truck. You never know how much stuff you have until you have to pack it up. Janak got the biggest truck so he knew he wouldn’t run out of space and we still filled the truck to the end!

I headed back with Janak in the moving truck and he dropped me off at home in Kansas City on Wednesday at 6pm. I had a wedding consultation at 7pm. I was excited to meet Dwight and Ginger. They are a beautiful couple and their wedding will be great! After my meeting with them I had to go home and pack again cause I was leaving with my friends Jake, Brandy and their kids to go to Austin at 10pm. Yes, this is all in the same night. I was home for a total of 4 hours. Brandy invited me to come with them to Austin to shoot photos of them with their kids while they were there celebrating her grandma’s 70th birthday at a beautiful lake house. Despite a long drive we had a great time. Their kids are just awesome and I always have so much fun with them. I am Uncle K to them along with many of my other friend’s kids (in case you were wondering about the title of this post). I guess that is what happens when you are a single grown-up where the only thing that separates you from them is your age☺ Kyler, Kaori, and Brice (also known as Buddha Belly) are so much fun and they had me laughing so much. We got some amazing photos but also had a lot of fun just hanging out. We went to the Alamo and the River Walk in San Antonio the first night in Texas. We followed it up with some intense games of dominoes and horseshoes at the lake house the next few nights accompanied with plenty of food and drinks. The nights were beautiful and when things slowed down I snuck off and took some amazing night shots of the lake. Check these out:

I had a great time in Texas. I use to live there so it was good to taste it again. By Sunday morning we had some awesome photos and great time with people but there was still a long ride to get back home. We finally arrived at my house at midnight last night. The kids were asleep and it was rainy outside which left for a short goodbye. I woke up today completely rejuvenated and thanked God for all the wonderful people he has put into my life. Here are a couple of the group shots from Chicago and Austin but stay tuned for the fun shots with all the kids in Austin…

Wow! Amazing time with Bob and Dawn Davis

So I have been in Chicago for a few days helping my friend move back to Kansas. I have also been spending time relaxing. My friend Jeremy and I had the great pleasure of spending Monday evening with Bob and Dawn Davis. If you are not familiar with Bob and Dawn they run La Storia foto and recently shot the 'Wedding Of The Year' for Eva Longoria and Tony Parker. Knowing I was going to be in Chicago I emailed Dawn and asked if I could join them for coffee while I was in town. They invited me and my friend Jeremy over for the evening. We planned on hanging out for a couple of hours and 5 hours later we were still sitting at their table. Bob and Dawn are just amazing! They shared so many stories of their experiences. Bob has done a lot of work for Oprah and photographed some big events for her. He was so open in sharing his knowledge. It was great just to get to know both of them. Dawn does all the designing for La Storia foto and she was so encouraging and really pushed the idea of believing is achieving. I can really see that in their lives too. I felt so blessed and encouraged by them. What an amazing couple and I was so humbled that they took a whole evening to spend with me and Jeremy. They have two beautiful children and they already have to balance family with work. When we were leaving Dawn came running after our car to make sure we didn't forget the delicious cookies that she had for us. Bob and Dawn I can't wait to see you two at WPPI! Thanks for a great evening!

Another fantastic wedding

I photographed a wedding for my friend at Kansas Memories on October 6th in Liberty, Kansas. Sarah and Brian were an exciting couple! The church had a beautiful open field next to it with a cloud-filled blue sky resting on it and this is where we took most of the photos. Brian was such a trooper of a groom cause he was so hot outside but stuck it out and we got some amazing photos because of it. Sarah was beautiful and when I asked her to dance around with her veil she didn't hesitate. The flower girl and the ring bearer added even more great shots. They were so adorable when we had them together. The ring bearer must have felt some kind of connection to the camera cause during the ceremony he was performing on stage for me. I was laughing so hard! I think I may have got more shots of him then I did of the couple. I had such a great time shooting this wedding and Sarah and Brian were so much fun to work with. Enjoy a few of the photos from their wedding. I may have to post a slideshow later with how many great photos there were. Stay tuned!

Chicago Time

I am going to Chicago for a week. This is a partial vacation for me. I am helping one of my best friends, Janak, move back down to Wichita, Kansas. He and his wife just started a family with their beautiful baby boy Peyton. All of their family is in Kansas so it was time to return home so the grandparents could be close by. One of my other best friends, Jeremy, is in Chicago with his wife and daugther (and another one on the way) so I will get to see them too. While I am there I will also be meeting with Bob and Dawn Davis. They have La Storia foto and do fascinating wedding photography along with a lot of work for Opera. Check out their site. It will amaze you! This will be the first time I get to meet them and I am super excited about it. They are amazing photographers and from Dawn's emails and what others say I know they are even better friends. Have a great week and stay tuned for some news from Chicago.

Nicci and Dave 9.16.07

Last month I shot a wedding with my friend John Jordan. He is an awesome photographer and asked me to be second shooter at his cousin's wedding in Lawrence, Kansas. Nicci and Dave were a great couple. They were very laid back and let us shoot any photos we wanted. I even got them in the phone booth during the reception at Abe & Jake's Landing. John and I had a great time shooting this wedding and since they were his relatives we even got to enjoy a couple drinks from the open bar afterwards...shhh! Also, don't miss the wedding crasher in the last photo. He had no clue there was a wedding reception going on but he sure was enjoying his drinks! Congratulations Nicci and Dave!

NASCAR at Kansas Speedway

I went to the NASCAR races at the Kansas Speedway with my brother a couple of weeks ago. He goes every year with his family and a bunch of friends. They have infield passes and camp out in their RVs for three days. My dad came up this year so I got to hangout with him, my brother, sister-in-law, and all of their friends. I brought a couple of friends on Saturday for the Busch Series. For those that don't know about NASCAR they have two races every weekend. The Saturday race is the Busch Series and the Sunday race is the Nextel Cup Series. The Sunday race is considered the bigger race but a lot of the same drivers race in the Busch Series on Saturday. It is awesome to watch either race. During the race we had the Kansas State/Texas football game on. Kansas State beat Texas and it was a great game. During the breaks in the football game we would run up to watch the race at the fence. After the race they fired up the grills and let the festivities begin. Here are some photos from the day.

Painting with Light

I went out last night with my friend Rachel and did some night photography. I showed her how to 'paint with light'. This was so much fun that we were out until 3am. My friend Blaine Franger is the master of night photography and introduced me to 'painting with light' years ago in Santa Barbara. I also got some great shots of Kansas City that I will show later. Until then, look at what you can do with just a flashlight and camera.

Phone Photo of Sophie

Here is a fun pic of my friend Erin's daughter, Sophie. I took this with my camera phone (no, not an iphone). This is the kind of lighting you can get if you sneak into the play area at Chik-fil-A even though your way too big. I love breaking the rules:)

Stephanie and Nathan 9.22.07

Stephanie and Nathan were a beautiful couple. Stephanie called me up a week before their wedding and told me that their photographer had canceled on them. Did that photographer miss out or what? We had a great time and got some amazing photos. I love the shots of them together. They look like just fell in love with each other and that is how it should be!

The wedding and reception were at the Bacchanalia in Overland Park. A really cool place that is small but elegant. Eric is the owner and he let me play the slideshow on all of his televisions. It turned out great. Congratulations Stephanie and Nathan!
