Janelle & Stephen E-Session

I had a great time with Janelle and Stephen a few weeks ago photographing their engagement photos. Janelle and Stephen are a beautiful young couple getting married at The Wynbrick Center on the ever-so-popular 8.8.08. I can't wait to get some amazing bridal shots of Janelle in her wedding dress. Stephen will being looking smooth in his tux and the two of them are so passionate and playful towards each other that there will be plenty of amazing photo opportunities on their big day. Can't wait to share those with you. Here are some of my favorites from their e-session that we shot down in the Power and Light District in Kansas City.

Nicole & Phillip 6.14.08

I am finally getting caught up and able to share with you some of the weddings I have shot recently. Nicole and Phillip were a great couple with a lot of energy. We had great weather and captured some terrific photos outside on a beautiful day. They had their reception at the Sheraton Hotel in Overland Park. It has an wide open courtyard that is great for shooting against the sky. We had a lot of fun and I just loved that Nicole broke out the Converse with her wedding dress at the reception! Congratulations Nicole and Phillip!

The Cons...

I was inspired by one of my favorite photographers, Jasmine Star, to start doing collage panels of all the wedding details. I think it gives you an overall feel for the atmosphere at the wedding and the reception when you see all of these detail shots together...

Christian the Lion Video

A friend sent this video and story to me and I generally don't share things that are forwarded to me but this is just too cool! I’ll bet you’ve never seen a pet like the one in this video. In 1969, two friends, John Rendall and Ace Berg, purchased a lion. At the time, Christian the lion was a 35-pound cub. He had been born in a zoo. The friends raised Christian in their London home. All three hung out in a friend’s furniture shop on the weekends.

Within a year, Christian had grown to 185 lbs. Rendall and Berg realized they couldn’t keep him much longer. But they didn’t know what to do with him. A chance encounter changed that. Two actors from the film Born Free walked into the furniture store.

The actors recommended a conservationist, George Adamson, living in Kenya. Christian was soon in Africa. There he was rehabilitated and released into the wild.

In 1974, Rendall and Berg decided to visit Christian one last time. He was now a wild animal. Adamson told them it was doubtful that Christian could be found. No one had seen him in nine months.

The two flew to Kenya, anyway. On the day they landed, Christian appeared outside Adamson’s camp. Somehow, he knew. He waited outside the camp until Rendall and Berg arrived.

This video was taken during their reunion with Christian. What a story! What a video!

The 'I Shoot People' Tour

Last night I was not feeling very good at all but I still managed to go to Sallee Photography's 'I Shoot People Tour' here in KC at the Great Wolf Lodge. Let me tell you, JB and DeEtte are an amazing couple! From a small town outside of Dallas they have really developed their business into being top-notch artists in the wedding industry. I love how they just shoot what they want and what they are good at. Eliminating a lot of time for formals and the reception. It shows in their work how much they put into the shots of the bride and groom before the wedding and the albums they create for them afterwards. They are so humble about their success too. I left being very encouraged yet very jealous:) I highly recommend you going if they come close to your city. Check out their tour schedule and their amazing work on their website. JB and DeEtte, thank you so much for sharing and I hope to meet up with you two again. I would have joined you at the bar had I not been feeling under the weather.

iPhone Madness

Well, I went down to the Plaza on Friday evening to get my iPhone and the line was still pretty long. Being that I don't have a lot of patience and I'm golfing today I decided I could leave this line with no dying need for the iPhone this weekend. Maybe I will try round 2 today but first thing is first and I have a tee time to catch!

Photo is from my friend Robben with his iPhone (not the new one).

Ginger & Dwight E-Session

Ginger and Dwight are such a beautiful couple and I had a great time photographing their engagement photos. At first, Ginger was a little nervous about having her pictures taken and told me that she is never happy with pictures of herself. After twenty minutes I showed her a couple of the shots on the back of the camera and she couldn't believe that was her. She is gorgeous and it was nothing but fun and laughter after that. Dwight is such a cool guy too. He is the one that contacted me after being at a wedding I shot at Longview Mansion and asked me to be their photographer. I am so glad he did too. We have already had such a good time together. I just can't stop shooting these two. Congratulations Ginger and Dwight! Can't wait for the wedding in a couple of weeks!

NEW & IMPROVED LARGER PHOTOS HAVE BEEN ADDED TO THE BLOG FOR YOUR VIEWING PLEASURE!

Susan & Jared E-Session

Susan and Jared were so much fun to photograph for their e-session. Susan has such a contagious laughter and when she would look at Jared the sparks would just fly and I would start clicking. We had a beautiful day down on the Plaza and in the West Bottoms of Kansas City. The lighting and colors of the sky were just perfect. It couldn't have been a better time and we ended with some amazing photos. Congratulations Susan and Jared! Can't wait to shoot your wedding at Longview Mansion in September! It is sure to be filled with the same laughter and excitement as the engagement shoot was!

Happy Independence Day!

I just love holidays! It is great to celebrate our countries Independence Day. I want to encourage everyone to have a relaxing enjoyable day thinking about all freedoms this country offers us. Despite all the political and economic hardships that are on our forefront right now we are truly a BLESSED COUNTRY! Focus on your blessings today and forget about high gas prices and our war in Iraq and CELEBRATE FREEDOM! HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY TO YOU ALL!

This is a photo from a class project I did while at Brooks Institute of Photography a few years ago. We all had an artist and had to try and copy his style through photography. I chose Jasper Johns. He was a contemporary style artist and did a lot of reliefs and paintings. A big portion of his work used the American Flag. I took a dead leaf from a palm tree and used the texture to paint on my own American Flag along with an old ratted cloth for the stars. The spattered crimson strips make me think of all the blood shed for our county but the overall composition says GLORY! Feel free to leave comments and let me know what you think.

I threw this one in just for fun. It is another photo from my Jasper Johns project. He dealt a lot with targets too. I had an old mattress with a hole in it and thought it would be a good starting point for a Jasper Johns style photo...
